Cycling on this itinerary alternates between the Greenways and Cycling Routes.
Over its 32-km northern section between Chalon-sur-Saône and Saint-Léger-sur-Dheune, the Greenway borders the Canal du Centre and enables appreciating the charm of this waterway traversed by a large number of pleasure craft, while discovering the vineyards of the Côte des Maranges and those of the Côte Chalonnaise from a completely new perspective.
The "Green Gate" (Porte Verte" in Fragnes and its bicycle stands/station offers a full array of equipment and services for the cyclist: a bike wash, repair facility and self-service tire inflation station, along with shops and an office with touring information.
7 touring loops for the cyclist, with various grades of difficulty, are all well-marked to overlap with this itinerary.
- From Saint-Léger-sur-Dheune all the way into Volesvres / Paray-le-Monial, a Cycling Route has been set up to cross the valley where the Canal du Centre runs, over a distance of 78 km (including a 6-km stretch of Greenways between Saint-Julien-sur-Dheune and Ecuisses).
A 4-km itinerary has been marked from Ecuisses in order to connect with the high-speed TGV rail station in Montchanin.
- To the west, a Greenways path once again runs along the Canal du Centre over a 17-km stretch between Digoin and Paray-le-Monial. This portion of the path makes its way through the lush Charolais pastures and prairies that provide grazing land for the famous all-white breed of beef cattle, renowned for its savour and succulence. This area also features a large number of Romanesque structures, a diverse array of arts and crafts activities and waterway cruises along the canals and rivers.
