Already one of the Western world's most sacred
grounds a thousand years ago, the spiritual
vitality of the Saône-&-Loire resounds
in names like Cluny, Paray-le-Monial, Tournus
and Autun.
Over the course of time, the monastic appeal
of the area has laid its foundations in a myriad
of ways. The Kagyu-Ling Buddhist Centre at Plaige
(the Temple of a Thousand Buddhas), the Orthodox
Monastery in Uchon, the Bethlehem Sisters Congregation
at Val Saint-Benoît and, going strong
for 50 years now with a following that spans
5 continents, the Taizé Ecumenical Community.
Moreover, the Sacred Heart pilgrimages continue
to shape the spiritual calendar at Paray-le-Monial,
where thanks to the efforts of the Emmanuel
congregation, international Evangelical rallies
and gatherings are held all year round. A truly
blessed region…
